Inventory

From dieyoung

The inventory can be opened by pressing the TAB-key (or the BACK button on a gamepad). The game DOES NOT stop running in the background, meaning that enemies could still spot or attack Daphne when the Inventory is open. The Inventory is divided in five sections: Map, Items, Craft, To-Do List and Docs.

Map

The Map appears like a topographic map showing Daphne's position (as a yellow arrow) and her surroundings. The map can't be zoomed in or out, nor panned, so only a portion of it can be viewed at a time. Each portion covers a 500 square-meters area, showing paths, buildings, rivers, etc.

Every time you reach a Campfire, a Water Source, a Shelter or a Fuel Source, a marker will be added to the map.

When a new location of the island is discovered, its name will appear on the map too.

Additionally, circular green markers might appear on the map depending on the current task. The green circle cover the area in which the next item(s) of the current task can be accomplished.

Items

The Items section is composed by four tabs: Inventory, Accessories, Keys and Details (plus a Quick Slots wheel).

The Inventory stores common items (such as Consumables, Tools, etc.) which Daphne can bring along with her. The game starts with only five slots available for storing (shown with a dark color), but its capacity can be increased by collecting Backpacks or crafting upgrades up to 24 slots. Generally, a single item takes one slot, but some of them can also have multiple quantities stored in a single slot (for example, you can store 3 units of Healing Powder in one slot).

Tip: Arrows are also special in this regard. By default, you can only carry one arrow per slot. However, acquiring a Quiver will let you carry more arrows in a single slot; the number of arrows stored in a single slot can then be further increased by upgrading the Quiver (mind that each arrow type will need a separate slot to be stored).

When you select an item from the Inventory, the bottom tab shows its name, a description (usually from Daphne's point of view) and, sometimes, additional info about the item's properties. Items inside the Inventory can be assigned to a specific slot in the Quick Slots wheel on the bottom right corner of the screen. Once an item is assigned to a slot, you can easily equip it while playing by scrolling the mouse wheel or using the 1-2-3-4 keys on the keyboard (or by pressing the corresponding button on the D-pad).

On the left side of the Inventory (which is in common to all sections of the in-game menu) there's a full-body picture of Daphne with six available slots. These slots are meant for Wearables, one for each body part: Head, Face, Torso, Hands, Legs and Feet. When you assign a wearable item, that item is removed form the Inventory slot and stored in the corresponding body part slot (for example, the Sneakers go to the Feet slot).

The Accessories tab is used to store special items. They usually unlock new gameplay features or affect existing game mechanics, and they can't be discarded nor equipped using Quick Slots.

The Keys tab is used for storing keys. Like Accessories, they don't take up space from the main Inventory. You don't need to equip them to open locked doors, for the game automatically use them when you interact with the corresponding door.

Craft

The Craft section has three tabs: Recipe List, Materials and Recipe Details.

The Recipe List has three sub-categories: Pharmacy, Tools and Miscellaneous. By selecting the category icons, you can access the lists of items that can be crafted for the corresponding type. Locked recipes/blueprints are marked with a black icon. Recipes that have all the requirements and materials available, and thus ready to be crafted, are marked in green color (if not, they are grayed out). When you craft an item (by holding the E-key on the keyboard or the X-button on a gamepad), the new item will be added in your Inventory (Items section). If your inventory is completely full, the word "FULL" appears over the icon, meaning you can't craft a new item until you have an empty slot in your inventory.

On the right side of the screen, there's the Materials tab. This is a list of all the materials you can collect and use for crafting (there are a total of 15 materials, two of them are locked at the beginning of the game).

Trivia: at the beginning of the game, herbs have generic names, such as Violet Flower or Red Root. After you found the Herbarium, the game will show their proper names (Lavender, Ephedra, etc.).

For each material you can see the number of units owned and the maximum number of units that Daphne can carry.

Tip: the store capacity can be increased by collecting or crafting Utility Belts.

When you select a recipe/blueprint, on the bottom of the screen you can read a list of items and Materials needed to craft that specific object. The missing materials are marked in red on the Materials tab. Some recipes can be crafted with equivalent items (separated with "/"), meaning that you only need one of them to successfully crafting the item (for example, a Poison Bait can be crafted using either a Canned Food, a Dead Rat, Raw Meat or Cooked Meat).

To-Do List

The To-Do List section has two tabs. On the right side of the screen there is the Tasks List tab, which is divided in three sub-categories: Main Tasks ("!" icon), Optional Tasks ("?" icon) and Completed Task ("✓" icon). By selecting the category icons you can browse the list of Tasks for each type. On the main tab you can see the description of the selected task and its list of objectives.

To set a task as "current" press the E-key or the X-button on a gamepad (the title of the task will turn green).

Docs

The Docs section has two tabs. On the right side of the screen there is the Documents List tab, which contains an index of all the documents you collected in the game. The last picked up document is listed first. Unread documents are marked with a yellow exclamation mark. Read documents are grayed out and listed in a predetermined order, instead.

Once you select a document from the list, it will be opened in the main tab at the center of the screen. Some documents have multiple pages which can be turned by clicking on the arrows at the bottom of the screen or by pressing left or right with directional buttons.
